Carlos Ellis Exercises to Feel Better
Biking, Walking and Weightlifting Keep Spirits Up and Weight Down
Carlos Ellis has been a patient at Fresenius Medical Care Collin County in Plano, Texas since 2008. Carlos went back on dialysis after his transplanted kidney failed, which caused him to become very depressed. But according to Carlos, with the help of good friends and lots of prayer, he started to come out of it and turned to exercise to help himself. “I knew that my physical condition would enhance my overall health,” he said.
Carlos lives about two miles from the clinic, so he began riding his bike to his dialysis treatments. As the months went by, he began doing more walking and then added calisthenics and light weightlifting. Carlos says,“Exercise has become an integral part of my treatment regimen and is a key to the very good condition I enjoy today.”
“Every year when I go for my annual pre-transplant exam, my weight, strength, and overall health show marked improvement that is reflected in how good I feel while on dialysis,” explains Carlos. “I would advise a new patient that exercise is a vital part of their treatment and to do whatever they need to do to be aware of the need to exercise. Start by doing ‘easy’ things like walking, then increase the amount and types of exercise, progressing at arate your body can sustain. Exercise to feel good!”
Fresenius Medical Care is proud to count Carlos among its Champion in Motion Runner Ups. He is a source of inspiration for all who know him.
