Antique Cars Keeps Mann on a Roll

Joseph Mann, 75, still lives two doors down from the house where he grew up, in Pinckneyville, Ill. Joseph is actively involved in his local community and is an avid antique car collector. When Joseph began in-center hemodialysis at Fresenius Medical Care DuQuoin in December 2007, due to high blood pressure that led to his kidney failure, he refused to let his treatments deter him from doing the things that he loves.

Joseph's biggest hobby is antique cars. He's on the American Thresherman Association’s board of directors and is the antique car chairman for Pinckneyville, and manages the community’s annual antique car show. Joseph also enjoys showing off his car collection at the annual Pinckneyville parade. He likes to wow the crowd by manually starting the old-time automobiles with a hand crank. Joseph likes to share his passion with his fellow patients and encourages them to find their own activity outside of dialysis to help keep their spirits high.

Joseph's enthusiasm for life is a constant inspiration for other patients and Fresenius Medical Care staff members, who named him a patient champion. When Joseph is not working on his cars, he spends time with his wife, Mary, and their four children, seven grandchildren and great grandchild…with another on the way!
