Fresenius Medical Care

Fresenius Medical Care

Getting Started

Before you start training, someone from the home hemodialysis team will visit your home. He or she will want to see:

  • The room where you’ll do your treatments—it will need to be close to a plumbing drain.
  • Where the water treatment equipment will need to go (a closet, basement, or bathroom).
  • Where you can store the supplies you’ll need.

Your water quality will need to be tested. The clinic will provide you a dialysis machine, recliner chair (if you do conventional treatments), and water treatment equipment. Most homes need some minor plumbing and wiring changes, some of which you may need to pay for. If you rent your home, you’ll need to ask your landlord for permission.
