Kidney disease is a life-changing event. Living with its symptoms and being on dialysis can impact many aspects of your life—your family, your friends, your work, your self-image. The good news about kidney disease is that, unlike many other serious health problems, it can be treated with great success. Some people with kidney failure have lived for nearly 40 years—since dialysis first started in the U.S.—with dialysis and/or transplants. People on dialysis work, volunteer, raise families, travel, take part in sports and hobbies, and do many other things. So, life may be a bit different than you expected, but it can still be good.
