Traveling, Teaching and Thriving

Fresenius Medical Care dialysis patient Richard Marietta has been teaching in Southington, Conn. for over forty years.

Richard Marietta is a 67-year-old dialysis patient from Southington, Conn., who lives life to the fullest by traveling regularly and working as an educator. His nurse at Fresenius Medical Care Southington says that his energy and positive attitude help other patients at his clinic lead fuller, happier lives.

Richard has been dialyzing for over a year, and in that time he has traveled to Las Vegas three times, as well as to Florida and South Carolina, where he has a second home in Hilton Head. Richard is able to travel as often as he pleases with the help of the Fresenius Medical Care Patient Travel Service. During his trips, he enjoys relaxing, eating out at restaurants and gaming.

When not traveling, Richard enjoys being a full-time substitute teacher at his local high school, Southington High, where he has been substituting for 9 years. Before that, he taught full-time at the high school for 34 years.

Richard keeps busy with his high-school students, but also has three grandchildren — ranging in age from 21 to a baby just a few months old — who are an important part of his life.
