Longtime Patient Reaches Out to Educate Others About CKD
From church activities to sports to video games, Jarrod takes pleasure in an active lifestyle. He has been on dialysis for the past 27 years, and now receives treatment at Fresenius Medical Care Bessemer Kidney Center.
Jarrod Jones suffered kidney failure when he was just 16 years old, and has now been on dialysis for a remarkable 27 years. He tried peritoneal dialysis (PD) for three years, but is now an in-center hemodialysis patient at Fresenius Medical Care Bessemer Kidney Center.
Jarrod had a kidney transplant, but it lasted only seven months, and he is currently on the transplant list at a local hospital. He no longer works, but enjoys an active life that includes going to church, and playing basketball, football, and video games. He also enjoys traveling, and in March plans to go to Chicago.
Because he has been on dialysis for such a long time, Jarrod is comfortable talking about his condition, and he tries to educate people in his community about what causes kidney failure, and what can be done to prevent it.
