Georgia Grandfather Grateful for 25 Years on Dialysis

DeWayne Ussery, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, celebrates 25 years on dialysis at Fresenius Medical Care South Macon Dialysis.

DeWayne Ussery has never been one to give up, and the 25 years he has spent on dialysis is just one remarkable example of that. DeWayne suffered kidney failure in 1985 due to high blood pressure, and received a kidney transplant that lasted 17 months. Since then, he has been receiving in-center hemodialysis therapy at Fresenius Medical Care South Macon Dialysis.

A former construction worker, DeWayne enjoys spending time with his son and two granddaughters who live in nearby Warner Robbins. He also likes to spend time with friends, and watches all types of sports, especially the NFL and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

DeWayne says he always makes the best of his life, and he is extremely thankful for the dialysis machine and the treatments that keep him alive.

“You simply cannot miss your treatments, because you're not hurting anybody but yourself," said DeWayne. "Sure, there are mornings you don’t feel like getting up for treatment, but you have to persevere and go to the clinic for your therapy."
