Home Dialysis Patient Stays Fit by Golfing, Fishing and Working Out

When 81-year-old William Costello underwent heart surgery, his kidneys started to fail and he was soon diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. After discussing the treatment options with his doctors and care team at Fresenius Medical Care Diamondhead Home Therapies, William decided to try home-based peritoneal dialysis treatments. He says it was the best decision he could have made because it helps him enjoy a flexible lifestyle and stay active.

“Home dialysis lets me live life like I did before, and if I can stay energetic I won’t slow down,” says William.

One of William’s favorite activities is golfing, and he regularly hits the links with his friends for a round of golf. He also enjoys fishing, working out at his health club, walking his dog and going to the local coffee shop with friends. “Even if you’re just walking short distances, daily exercise is so important,” he says.

William enjoys spending time with his big family. His wife, two children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren make a great support group.
