California Grandmother Stays Active and Keeps Blood Pressure in Check
Gracie Castro is 58-years-old and lives in Bonita, California. She was diagnosed with kidney failure 18 years ago. She was determined to maintain her active lifestyle after she started her in-center hemodialysis treatments, and has done so with a variety of exercises and activities over the years.
Gracie recognizes how important regular exercise is to her overall health, and she most enjoys walking, biking and aerobics. Gracie says that exercise gives her more energy and helps keep her blood pressure in check, so she doesn't have to rely on medications to lower it. She adds that her faith in God gives her strength and courage to move forward and she finds enjoyment in being around her 15 grandchildren.
Even when she's talking on the phone, Gracie tries to move around the house because she believes it's very important to stay active no matter what she's doing. She receives hemodialysis treatment at Fresenius Medical Care Chula Vista South, and is a member of the Fresenius Medical Care North America patient advisory board. In her spare time, she enjoys sketching, photography, traveling, volunteering at her church and "living life to the fullest."
